Subject: Re: Full voice dictation

I always use Dragon NaturallySpeaking, I prefer it
to ViaVoice, and it suits my work better. The question
here though is what is best for Paul. I do though have
some points for Jeff (Paul, the point for you is at the
end of this post).

Mine runs fast on a PIII 650 with 256mb ram, but of
course I'd like an even faster cpu!

Have you checked out the voice-coders' list? --
there are probably programmers who work hands
free using NaturallySpeaking Professional (perhaps
with Python, which also gives macro capability to
Preferred).
(I use Professional.)
See also www.voicedevelopers.org.

In fact, ViaVoice 8 probably has the best recognition
engine -- though there isn't much difference, really --
NaturallySpeaking is far better for editing and correction,
that makes the programs more or less equal, I would
say. (I have not tried ViaVoice 8 and now I know it
does not work adequately with W2K, won't be trying
it. I have used earlier versions of ViaVoice, their
accuracy was very good but Dragon's other features
decided me to stay with it.)

I can recommend NaturallySpeaking but do have to
lodge that point: if Paul can't buy NaturallySpeaking
he shouldn't think he's ending up with an inferior
program (though again, I recommend something
better than ViaVoice _Standard_).

Finally people thinking of getting voice software
should check out the various voice lists and usenet
groups and forums, see page10.html
