Product Review: BookGem®

October 31, 2001

We received the BookGem bookholder to take a look at recently. It's a great device that will be a favorite for any computer user who does any transcription and is on the move, because it fits in a pocket.

BookGem® www.bookgem.com $19.95

BookGem can be used to hold books from the top or bottom and it has several "little touches" that show it's well-thought-out. It has spring-loaded arms on the front to hold a book firmly, and they even have slots at the front of the arms so you can flip a few pages at a time before moving the arms to another group of pages. The following figure shows the slots without any pages.

We only found one thing that would be a nice addition to BookGem, a pop-up arm that would support plain paper rather than a book. But this is easily remedied by placing a notepad behind the paper.

We don't do much transcription ourselves, so we've offered our demo BookGem® to a SoreHander who needs it. Good luck, and let us know what you think.
